Our work

Future Woodlands Scotland

Who we work with

Help us achieve our vision of a Scotland in which trees and native woodlands are thriving for our wildlife, communities and climate.

We work alongside individuals, NGOs, community-based groups, corporate partners and research organisations to help trees and native woodlands thrive. The more we work together, the more change is possible for our wildlife, communities and climate.

We believe collaboration is crucial to protecting and preserving trees and native woodlands. And we are keen to initiate partnerships with organisations that share our ambition.

Our corporate partners

bp

In 2021, with help from bp, Future Woodlands Scotland started the Future Woodlands Fund, a three-year pilot project to help landowners plant trees and restore Scotland’s ghost woodlands. This effort has led to 18 active projects, creating or restoring approximately 1,000 hectares of woodland.

Building on this success, our partnership expanded in 2023 to include urban forestry, funded through bp’s Offshore Wind commitment. Over the next decade Future Woodlands Scotland and bp aim to make Scotland’s urban areas greener by investing £10m in our urban forests. We will do this by supporting the creation of leafier neighbourhoods, including trees in parks, streets, amenity areas and along canals and rivers. We will also support projects that will encourage people to spend more time outdoors interacting with their communities, promoting health and wellbeing.

Answer Connect

In December 2022, AnswerConnect chose Future Woodlands Scotland as their charity partner, as part of its “Giving Back” initiative, in which they donate to a different environmental NGO each month.

Alongside our partners, we contribute to and collaborate on campaigns that support our mission. We are a founding member of the Alliance for Scotland’s Rainforest.
