Greening Edinburgh’s Norton Park SCIO for community wellbeing

Norton Park SCIO in Edinburgh is set to be transformed into a greener, more vibrant space with support from our Urban Forestry Programme. The project will increase canopy cover and create accessible greenspaces for local workers, residents, and visitors.

Home to 24 charities and not-for-profits, Norton Park provides vital office space and event facilities, serving as a hub for organisations focused on social impact and well-being. With funding from the Urban Forestry Challenge Fund, 10 new trees will be planted, helping to improve the environment and quality of life for the 400 people working at Norton Park and the surrounding residents.

In addition to the planting work, Norton Park will host events and workshops aimed at promoting green spaces. They also plan to engage with their tenants to look after the gardens use the spaces for therapeutic activities.

Work on the project is expected to complete in June 2025.

“We are absolutely delighted to accept this grant from Future Woodlands Scotland, which will bring nature and biodiversity into the heart of Norton Park. This project will enhance the environment, benefit our neighbourhood, and create much-needed green spaces for everyone who uses Norton Park – from our business tenants and their staff to service users and visitors. This initiative is a wonderful step forward in improving well-being, connecting people with nature, and strengthening our community.”
