We’re delighted to welcome Luke Strachan as Chief Executive of Future Woodlands Scotland, joining us at an important time for Scotland’s woodlands.
Luke joins us from Wild Things, where he led the organisation for eight years, expanding its reach across communities. He brings extensive experience in the voluntary and environmental sectors, with a strong focus on partnerships and connecting people with nature.
Commenting on his appointment, Luke said:
“I’ve long admired the work of Future Woodlands Scotland and the role it plays in restoring Scotland’s woodlands. Woodlands underpin our wildlife and are equally important for people and communities. I’m looking forward to building on what’s already been achieved and extending our impact.
As the impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss intensify, we need to scale up woodland restoration and stewardship across both rural and urban Scotland.”
Luke succeeds Shireen Chambers, who retired earlier this year after four years as Chief Executive.
Dave McCall, Chair of Trustees at Future Woodlands Scotland, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Luke to Future Woodlands Scotland as our new Chief Executive. His experience in the conservation sector, alongside his energy and clear commitment to our mission, will be invaluable as we continue to expand our support for trees and woodlands across Scotland.
“The Board was particularly impressed by his understanding of the opportunities ahead and how the charity can continue to grow.”
In his role, Luke will lead the charity’s next phase of development, as we look to expand our impact, including strengthening our research and evidence base alongside our work supporting woodland creation and restoration across Scotland.
