We’re thrilled to share that Future Woodlands Scotland is now a proud member of 1% for the Planet, a global network of 12,000 businesses and environmental organisations working together to protect and restore nature.

Founded in 2002, 1% for the Planet is built on a simple idea: every business benefits from the earth’s resources, so every business should help protect them. Businesses commit to donating 1% of annual sales to environmental causes, and organisations like ours receive these donations directly. The contributions are flexible, meaning companies of all sizes can make a meaningful impact in a way that works for them.

Becoming part of this global movement comes at an important time for our work. Over the past year:

• We’ve supported restoration work across 860 hectares at 16 sites, including some of Scotland’s most threatened ancient habitats.
• Our new national mapping tool identified more than 10,000 hectares of ghost woodland, helping landowners and policymakers target restoration where it’s needed most.
• In Scotland’s towns and cities, we supported 13 community projects and planted 3,000 trees, improving green spaces and wellbeing in areas with low tree equity.
• Through our Future Skills Programme, 130 people were trained in 2024/25, helping build a diverse workforce ready to care for Scotland’s woodlands.

Joining 1% for the Planet strengthens our ability to grow this impact. It connects us with a wider community of purpose-driven organisations and opens new doors for partnerships that can help accelerate woodland recovery across Scotland.

Through initiatives like this, Future Woodlands Scotland is turning the vision of a Scotland rich in healthy, resilient woodlands into reality.
