Social Juice CIC, the Aberdeen social enterprise that turns surplus fruit into food and drink, will use the funding to grow the Silver City Trees initiative, helping communities nurture greener local spaces while building practical skills in tree planting, care and food growing.
Silver City Trees is a partnership project supported by Aberdeen City Council that aims to extend urban woodlands and to bring the benefits to more residents of Aberdeen.
The project will focus on neighbourhoods where increased tree cover can deliver the greatest community benefit, working directly with residents to create lasting green spaces and supporting long-term tree care.

Neil Clapperton, Director of Social Juice CIC, said:
“This grant from Future Woodlands Scotland will bring the benefits of urban forests to the communities of Aberdeen. The grant will support the planting of at least 200 fruit and native trees in those neighbourhoods where they’re most needed. By working with local community groups and sharing tried‑and‑tested North East expertise, we’re involving local people in planting and caring for trees. Our Silver City Trees project will improve wellbeing, provide local food and make Aberdeen’s green spaces fairer and more sustainable.”
